Need fabric?

Guess what? Seriously, guess what?

Noodles & Milk patterns have been picked up by another website. Above All Fabric now carries my patterns. You can find them here.

Above All Fabric is an awesome fabric shop owned by Melanie (who might be the sweetest person ever). Above All Fabric used to be an etsy shop that I frequented when I was doing custom work. Despite her success and huge amount of orders, she always remembered me and  made a point to say "hi". Her business grew so fast that Melanie took it to her own website. You can find just about everything on the Above All Fabric site. They even carry apparel fabrics!

Melanie has a great offer for you. In honor of Noodles & Milk being launched on the website, from now until December 31st, you will get 15% off your fabric order when you purchase a Noodles & Milk pattern! How great is that? When you buy a pattern, you need fabric to go with it anyway, right? So it is a super deal for you.

You can buy this pattern :

And get fabrics from this series to go with it for 15% off.

(fandango)

Or buy this pattern:

And get some of these fabrics for 15% off.

(sanctuary)

The possibilities are endless! So, get shopping. Buy any Noodles & Milk pattern and pick out your fabric. Enter code "Noodles" at checkout to get the 15% discount. Enjoy!

Like Above All Fabric? You can follow their blog here. And fan them on facebook here.

Pictures, a winner and a free pattern

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween weekend whether it was trick or treating with the kids, watching scary movies or just eating lots of candy. We were super busy. We enjoyed trick or treating on Saturday at a the zoo. It is such a fun event and my little princess loved it. Sunday we did traditional trick or treating and a hayride with friends. Also lots of fun.

A few thoughts about our Halloween:
1. The day after Halloween is a disaster for young children. I believe it should be a school holiday. I imagine that many teachers would agree with me.
2. Despite my love of the handmade, our Halloween was not handmade. I hope you can forgive me. I figure that with a newborn, I have an excuse. Besides, this store-bought costume was cheaper than I could have made it for.
3. For those houses that deck themselves out in the scariest way: When you see a group of 3 year olds coming, seriously why would you try to scare them? They are just babies and don't know that you are just playing pretend. That is just wrong!

Anyways, here are a few pictures from our Halloween.

Now, for the winner of the Minnie and Me giveaway from last week. The winner is:

If I can ever find the time...

Finding time to work and sew with a newborn has been much harder than I anticipated. Much harder. To prove it, I have these two patterns written. They have been written, photgraphed and modeled. All I need to do is type them up and send them to testing and then they will be ready for the shop. I am really hoping to have them ready in the next month because I hate having these projects partially finished. Plus they are just too cute not to be listed in my shop!

This one is an elbow length ruffle sleeve twist on a peasant dress. I plan to layer it over jeans and leggings once the weather cools off (keep in mind my daughter was modeling this in August)

This one is actually a pattern written for knit fabrics. It looks fancy but is actually quite easy and would be perfect for beginners or those who have never tried knits.

What do you think?

I know you have all heard of the super fabulous sewing site, Sew Mama Sew! (Just in case you have not, go here asap and add it to your google reader!) On their site you can find all kinds of inspiration, tutorials, pattern reviews, sewing tips and more.
Sew Mama Sew also has an online shop where you can purchase wonderful fabrics, patterns and notions. Well, you can now purchase Noodles & Milk sewing patterns from their online shop!

Occassionally they pick a pattern from their shop and do a review and giveaway. I am really hoping that they pick a N&M one soon! That would be such fun publicity! Keeping my fingers crossed...

Great for Back-to-school

This is a staple outfit for back-to-school. I am whipping up several different fabric combinations for my daughter.
It is super simple using this applique tutorial and the Kinley Lounge pants pattern from the shop.
The applique could be substituted with some rosettes or an embroidered monogram.

The pants would also be great made in a corduroy fabric for the cooler weather.

Enjoy.

Can I get your opinion?

I am trying to work on updating the look of my pattern covers. Obviously there is a lot involved including photography, editing, design, etc. I am certainly not an expert in any of these areas but I feel like I do a good-enough job to get by for now.

Anyways, what I am battling with is whether to use images of just the garments or garments on a model. After doing some research, it appears that different designers go different ways and there is not really a right or wrong.

Ideally, I want my covers to appeal to customers searching for patterns on etsy and also in their local sewing shop. I would love to get an opinion. What do you think? Do you have a preference? If you saw the two, which is more appealing?

(Yes, this is a new pattern and will be in the shop in the next couple weeks!)

In addition, do you think that all the patterns need to have the same appearance or could some have a model and some have just the garment? I would love to hear all the feedback you can give me! If you are more comfortable emailing instead of leaving comments, you can email me at noodlesandmilk@gmail.com

Thanks!

A new blog look and a Giveaway!

******This giveaway is now closed******

First, let me say that if you are reading this via google reader or bloglines or some other blog feed, you need to check this out live. The new blog design is up and it is just beautiful! I am in love and I hope you like it to.

Now that the new design is up, I am kicking things into gear. There are lots of fun things in store for this blog. Features on other crafty etsy seller. Tutorials for all kinds of fun & creative things. N&M shop updates (of course). AND giveaways for free stuff. No, this is not going to turn into "one of those" giveaway sites. You know the ones- you have a giveaway like every 5 minutes with no real content. No, I will only be featuring giveaways for cool stuff on a once or twice a month basis.

All that being said, I need your help promoting the new site and I thought I would kick off the site with a giveaway to the Noodles & Milk shop. You may choose to do all of these things for up to 4 entries, or only 1 thing. Here are the details:

-Blog about it! If you have a blog, I would love it if you would do a quick little post about the new N&M blog and/or shop. Come back here and leave a comment that you did and make sure to leave me your blog address.
= 1 entry

-Become a follower of the blog! Make sure to leave a comment saying that you are now a blog follower.
=1 entry

-FB about it! If you are on Facebook, I would love a quick little blurb linking people to the blog or my shop as well. Come back here and leave a comment that you did and make sure to leave me your FB name
=1 entry

-Become a fan on Facebook! Become a fan of Noodles & Milk on facebook and come back here telling me that you did. (http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/pages/Noodles-and-Milk/175815777933?ref=ts)
= 1 entry

So what do I win?

1 winner will win 3 FREE patterns of their choice from the shop!

Don't sew? Well, if you know anyone that does, you are free to gift these free patterns to them. Or, maybe you will play along just because you are helping out a friend. Or, maybe it is the perfect time to take up sewing (the patterns are perfect for beginners!)

The giveaway will remain open until Saturday at midnight. I will post a winner on Sunday.

Changing gears

Change is in the air for Noodles & Milk.

I have absolutely adored making custom creations for my etsy shop. It has been a wonderful (almost) 2 years working with amazing customers and creating gifts for new babies all over the world. The changes in the shop are definitely bittersweet.

I am sad to lose the opportunity to serve so many of my loyal customers. I am sad to lose the opportunity to make new mommies smile with my creations. I have to keep reminding myself that there is a time for change, and for Noodles & Milk, that time is now.

In January I found out that I was expecting my second child. After months of trying this was a very welcome surprise. My thoughts quickly moved from tiny baby things to the shop. I barely had time to fill orders as it was with my toddler. How was I ever to accomplish anything with an infant AND a toddler?

I immediately thought of writing patterns. I have purchased many patterns in my day and I have a friend who has written some of her own with much success. I asked questions, got advice and took a stab at it. Turns out, I really enjoy writing patterns! It is so exciting to create an idea in my head and watch it take shape as I work out the kinks.

So, while patterns are still quite new in the shop, this appears to be the direction that Noodles & Milk is going to take for the time being. Pattern designing allows me to take on one project at a time. I can pour hours of work into it and once the work is done, it is done. This is allowing me to do a lot of creating now, before the baby comes, and hopefully be able to take several months off while still selling previously created patterns. Once the sleep deprivation stage wears off, I will be back at the table drafting new designs.

I can't promise that custom orders will be gone forever, because I do love that part of the business. But for now, patterns it is. That being said, I will try my hardest to make this a sewing and inspiration blog. I would love feedback & followers.

A little business talk:
- Fan Noodles & Milk on FB for updates
-If you are a sewer interested in testing patterns for me before they are released for sale. Leave me a comment with your email address and I will add you to my contact list
-If you have an etsy or artfire or any other handmade sewing shop and would like to be featured or advertise, please email me: noodlesandmilk@gmail.com

Here is the latest pattern in the testing phase!

Happy Sewing,
Sabrina
