Materials Needed:

20" Of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon

Small prong clip

Thread

Needle

Embroidery thread

Hair clasp

Lighter

Ruler

Scissors

Hot glue

1- Cut 12 inches of ribbon

2- heat seal each end with a lighter

3- bring ends to the center to make a figure 8

4- sew in the center and knot off

5- bring tips of ends of circles to center

6- clip to secure bow look

7- with matching embroidery thread tie a knot around tight and cut ends

8- take clip off and make sure embroidery thread is centered.

9- sew in the middle again

10- cut 4 1/2" matching ribbon, heat seal ends with lighter

11- glue ribbon to prong clip leaving bottom end unglued

12- glue bow to top of lined clip

13- make a knot with extra ribbon color and glue knot to center of bow

14- with the remaining ends of center knot for bow glue them to the back of the clip

15- cut remaining ribbon and heat seal end

16- glue the rest of the ribbon for the clip on top of the back

Onesie Dress: A tutorial review

I have wanted to try this tutorial for a while now. Some friends of ours just welcomed home a baby girl and finally I had the perfect opportunity to test it out.

 

 

All-in-all, this was a super straight forward tutorial. I highly recommend it. You could definitely whip out a bunch of these in a very short amount of time.

 

 

The only note I would add is that in step 8, you need to pull the elastic as tight as it will go. The first time I tried this, I was just gently pulling the elastic and it was not reaching far enough. The second go round, I pulled it as tight as possible and it fit perfectly.

 

 

Other than that, the only change I made to mine was by adding a couple inches to the length. I intend this dress to be used in the fall so I wanted the skirt to be a little longer in lengh.

 

To add a little more pizzaz to mine, I am going to have either the name or monogram embroidered onto the top of the onesie. I love over-the-top stuff and personalization- that is just how I roll:)

Changing Pad Cover- a tutorial review

Have you noticed the "projects" tab at the top of the page? If not, you should check it out. There are a bunch of cool tutorial links that are currently on my to-do list.

 

 

I had some extra fabric laying around that matched part of our son's nursery. Originally I was just keeping it with the intention of finding something to do with it later. Well I finally decided to use it to make an extra changing pad cover and got around to making one using the Prudent Baby tutorial. Overall I thought the tutorial was super easy and it was really quick to make (like 30 minutes quick) which is always nice.

 

 

In case you decide to tackle this project, I thought I would pass on a couple tips that I used while working through it.

 

-There are no seam allowances listed in the tutorial. I used 1/4" and that seemed to work fine.

 

-Personally, I found step 4 to be a little confusing. Here is what you are supposed to do: After you have cut out the 8-inch squares and unfolded the fabric, you will have 4 corners that look like this...

 

With right sides together, fold the two edges shown above onto each other and pin in place. You need to do this at all 4 corners of the fabric. When it is all pinned together, your fabric will resemble the shape of a basket liner.

The tutorial calls for a 36" piece of elastic. I found that my cover fit a little on the snug side so, I would recommend using a 38" or a little larger piece of elastic instead.
