I don't know how they do it

I never wanted kids. Seriously. I did not grow up baby sitting. I did not have a lot of younger cousins to watch over. I am not sure I even played with baby dolls. It is not that I didn't like babies, I mean I am not heartless or anything. I just didn't want kids.

In college, when I got super serious with my now husband, I used to have trouble breathing at the thought of getting married...mainly because I thought that meant kids would come next. And I didn't want kids.

Well, long story short, my heart changed as I got older. Slowly but surely my heart changed to the point of having an actual argument with my husband one night because I was ready to start trying for children and he wasn't. Wow, things had really changed.

Well, obviously, we had kids. Two adorable kids. They are wonderful. I cannot imagine my life without them.

After weeks like last week I also cannot imagine life without my husband. After long days at work, he came home to fussy, sick kids and just went into parenting rockstar mode. Then into the night he would take turns with me as we got up with both sick kids. Over and over again. Not a single complaint. Seriously. Even when I was crabby and fussy too. Not a complaint.

This is what our baby looked like a lot this week. Fever and teething. And now a cough. Boo.

He also cooks and cleans on a daily basis and gives me a day off without the kids every Saturday. I mean seriously...rocks. my. world.

Enough bragging. This post is not meant to be about my family. It is meant to honor and uplift all the single moms out there. They don't have a rockstar spouse to pull the weight when the weeks are rough. I seriously do not know how you do it. Just the thought of single parenting is both terrifying and inspiring to me. On a good week, single moms have it tough. On a bad week, they have it really rough.

Honestly, think about it. They undoubtably work some sort of full time job and then pick up kids and head home to fix dinner and get them to bed. No playtime. No let-me-stop-and-check-facebook time. No time to un-wind after a day at work. After the child(ren) are in bed single moms are surely doing housework and laundry and making grocery lists. Since there is no time during the week, I am certain the weekend is filled with errands and hopefully a little fun with the child(ren).

Here is our daughter this week. She had a nasty something or other. Fever for 4 days. She felt bad and was super ugly about it. A true pleasure to be around.

Getting a day off without the kids? Nope. Having someone else cook and clean with you or for you? Nope. They do it all.

Now imagine a bad week. One where a child (or mom!) is sick. There are deadlines at work. Bills are overdue. A car needs repair. Imagine all the "normal" week stuff plus this bad stuff. Seriously? How is it even possible? And yet they do it all the time.

I am constantly wishing there were more hours in the day. Can you imagine how single mom's feel? I am in awe of their spirit, determination, work ethic, parenting ability and overall ability to keep things together. You women absolutly inspire me. Honestly, there is not a day that goes by that I do not think of how single moms are dealing with the situations that I am in. I am such a complainer...in most situations. I am also pretty helpless a lot of the time. I am certain that I would fail miserably as a single mom.

This post is turning into such a downer. It wasn't supposed to. This is supposed to be a rush of praise for single moms. I hope that you get what I am trying to say. To all you single moms out there: You are amazing! I pray that you all have some sort of support system whether it be family or great friends. I pray that you get some sort of respit from your child(ren) whether it be a little time away or just really great behavior. I pray that your money would miraculously go further. Most of all I pray that you would feel encouraged as you continue doing what you are doing.

Are any of you out there single moms? If you are I would love for you to leave me a comment so that I can encourage you personally a little.

Thankful Thursday

Here we are, it is Thanksgiving- can you believe it?

I hope you all are spending the holiday with your family and friends as we are doing. Today I am extremely thankful for my life. I am very aware that I have much more than most people in the world. I am so thankful for all the blessings that have been bestowed upon me. These blessings vary from the roof over my head to the family that loves me...from the opportunity to stay at home with my children to this very blog...from my health to my passion for sewing. They just go on and on. Each one of these blessings in my life are wonderful little surprises that I get to enjoy everyday. I pray that you all realize each of your little blessings today and are very thankful for them all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankful Thursday

This week I am thankful for girlfriends. I have some of the most wonderful friends. Seriously, I do. Some of them date back to elementary school and others are from recent years, but I am thankful for them all the same. Time with my girlfriends allows me to be completely vulnerable and act like the complete goof that I am. I laugh, cry, share stories and ask advice. Not matter what we do, I am ALWAYS refreshed after time spent with any of them.

Just a few friends from high school that got together this past week- we have been friends for 16 years!

I am also thankful for pest control. I don't like bugs and the season changes always bring them into our home. I am so thankful for the men and women who can make them go away.

I am also super thankful for modern conveniences like the microwave, washing machine, dishwasher, baby swings, cell phones and laptops. There are so many other modern conveniences out there and I promise, I am a fan of most all of them. They make life easier and as a mom of two little ones, I like things that can be simplified!

Texas is finally feeling like fall and I am so thankful for the cooler weather. I can break out the jeans, boots and chunky sweaters (perfect for covering extra postpartum weight!) and enjoy the crisp air. The heater at our house kicks on at night to warm our home and robes and slippers are necessary in the morning. I love the season change!

What are you thankful for this week?

Thankful Thursday

Continuing with Thankful Thursday's, I am thankful for the internet. Seriously, it is a wonderful thing. It has allowed me to keep in touch with friends and family, start a business in which I can work from home, blog and meet so many awesome people in the blogging community. The internet also makes life so much easier. Whether I am finding a new recipe, ordering something online or looking up directions, the internet is a huge blessing to me everyday.

I am thankful for my community. I live in a wonderful city in which so many friends live. I get to drive through my college campus (Go Frogs) almost every day and am reminded of wonderful memories. I get to see the chuch where I was married as I take my daughter to school 3 days a week. The city is small enough that I am constantly running into people I know when I am out and about but it is big enough to contain lots of shopping, dining and fun things to do. I love Fort Worth!

I am thankful for my mother-in-law. She is a super special lady and I owe my knowledge of sewing to her. She has blessed my life and made me a better person in so many ways that I cannot begin to count, but giving me a passion and teaching me something that I have come to love is near and dear to me.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursday

I have so much to be thankful for this year, big and small. Every thursday this month I am going to share with you a little about what I am thankful for.

First and foremost, I am thankful for my awesome husband. I could seriously tell you some stories that would make you swoon...Like how my husband has daddy/daughter day EVERY Saturday. No matter what. He lets me sleep in (that is before the new baby was born) and gets our daughter up, takes her out of the house on an adventure, feeds her lunch and does naptime...all by himself. every.single. saturday. For over 2 years now. It has been such a blessing. Before the baby was born I was able to do whatever I wanted with my Saturdays- sew, pedicure, naps, girl time, whatever. Now I am able to enjoy a little peace with just the baby. It is wonderful. My husband also cooks, cleans, does dishes. Oh yea, and he loves me. Seriously, he rocks. I totally don't deserve him.

I am also thankful for my healthy children. There are so many parents that are suffering with sick children or the loss of children and it is heartbreaking. I thank God for my perfect and healthy babies.

I am also so thankful for a God that loves me unconditionally. Period. Enough said.

On a fun note, I am thankful for color. I love color. Whether it is in fish or fabric, our world is just so amazingly colorful and I love it. Fall is the perfect time of year to be thankful for color.

What are you thankful for? Will you participate with me? Leave your thankful comments...or would you like me to put up a linky to your own thankful thursday posts?
